How to know if you have picked the right service company.
You should expect a certain level of professionalism in service
companies.
One very good indication that a company is going to treat you with courtesy and your home with care is by the details that they have prepared for before they dispatch a crew to your home or business.
One of those details are shoe covers to protect your home or office floors and carpets.
Just as the old adage of that a restaurants bath room is often a reflection of their standard of cleanliness. Shoe covers are often a reflection of a service companies commitment to courtesy and quality service. Shoe covers have been standard issue to the crews of Seattle Plumber, Fox Plumbing and Heating has for many years now.
In this interview David and Vicki expound on this quality trait and how to handle a company that doesn't meet this standard.
ᅠ
David: In our company, for instance, all of our guys use little booties or shoe covers, and I know that the customers appreciate that. Because I get the calls all the time and they are surprised a lot of times. Our guys put the booties on to cover their shoes. But that's what anybody should expect today. Most service companies. That are quality companies are gonna supply their crew with these little shoe covers, it's a part of our industry now and in any service industry all of us are very much aware of it. We've been doing it for many years now, so I would think that anyone should expect to see that, if they don't, That's probably indication of maybe the companies not of the standards that maybe you want to have in your home. That's a big deal. It would be a big deal to me today.
ᅠ
Vicki: Well what do you say if that happens? Somebody comes traipsing through your house with muddy boots?
ᅠ
David: Well, I would certainly stop them and ask them if they have any shoe covers in the truck. They should have. I mean I would hope that the guys any crews coming in would automatically would think to put them on, but if they see somebody coming in that is not putting them on. They should probably stop them and ask them if they have them and if they don't, you should probably decide if that's a the kind of company you want to deal with. Quite frankly, any good companies today should have, shoe covers for all of their crews.

What to expect in a plumbing warranty.
I think we ( Fox Plumbing and Heating ) have the best written warranty's in the industry.
So all of the things I mention whether it is drain cleaning, faucets and fixture replacement. Re- piping, new water services, hot water heaters and new sewer lines. We give written warranties.
Each of these have different Warranty's anything from 6 months to 50 years. So we give these in every job that we do.
But what a consumer should expect is a minimum of one year warranty on any repairs they have done with the exception of drain cleaning. Typically, none of us ( plumbing companies ) can offer more than a 6 month warranty which we do ( Fox Plumbing ) and some companies offer only 30 days. But drain cleaning is a little different situation, when you're doing, re-piping and modernization of plumbing and fixtures you should get a minimum of 12 months on any warranty.

Plumbing and Bathroom Safety For Seniors
With the current aging population safety and care-giving in the home is coming to the forefront of people minds.
Preventing accidents and making lives of the elderly and disabled easier with modification of problem areas in the home is not only a concern to the eldery and disabled but an important consideration to care-providers whether they be contracted or a family member.
People 65+ represented 12.4% of the population in the year 2000 but are expected to grow to be 19% of the population by 2030 according to the
Department of Health & Human Services Administration on Aging.
An AARP survey estimated that 44.4 million Americans are taking care of another adult, mainly an elderly parent or other relative.
In this blog and video, Seattle Plumbing Contractor, Fox Plumbing and Heating's President David Brown with the help of Vickie Rackner MD founder of The Care Givers Club , are exploring ways of dealing with a caregivers most difficult challenges, " the bathroom ".
Dr. Rackner is a board-certified surgeon and nationally noted expert in the doctor-patient relationship. She has treated tens of thousands of patients, taught medical students to think like doctors and served as an expert witness who reviewed scores of malpractice cases. She served as a faculty member at the University of Washington School of Medicine. "Dr. Vicki", as she has come to be known, left the operating room to help family caregivers and patients and health care professionals partner more effectively with each other. She's a regular source on CNN.com, has been quoted in The Wall Street Journal,USA Today, The Washington Post, Reader's Digest, Bottom Line Health, Woman's Day, Real Simple and many others. She has been interviewed on over 100 radio shows, including NPR,Martha Stewart Living and Health Talk.
One Solution to a care giving problem is a tankless hot water heater.
David Brown says "Many people today. Have problems with running out of hot water especially with elderly people that are taking extended showers with care workers this can lead to a dangerous solution of turning up the water heater to extend the length of time there is hot water, but this increases the chances of scalding and burns. David Brown says "The industry today was gonna towards these tankless water heaters and then they seem to be working fabulously. Tankless water heaters will give you endless hot water this is a little bit larger project and we send out an estimator to look at that. But for elderly people that have got bathing problems and care givers that are having these sorts of problems where they are running out of hot water. We have a really good fix for that today with these tankless water heaters and it saves a lot of space we don't have to put in a large tanks like we used to you, these are fairly small units that hang on wall but we can give endless hot water without any difficulties, so we can eliminate that problem we have had over the years".
This is one of the most problematic areas of home health care as well as one of the most dangerous and uncomfortable situations for those being cared for, we will of course be exploring may others.
